Dear California Voters: A Letter From CIRM’s Governing Board
By The CIRM Governing Board
October 15, 2020
We, the undersigned individuals who serve on the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Board, represent voices from California’s most dedicated patient advocates, world renowned research and medical institutions and life-long public servants. For the last 15 years, we’ve been working tirelessly for you in a fight to end human suffering.
When California voters passed Proposition 71 in 2004, it set in motion the beginning of a program that has turned our state into the global leader of stem cell research and launched California’s path to groundbreaking medical advancement. This November, we are calling on you again and asking for you not to turn your back on science.
While the Governing Board has already voted 21 to 11 (among the members present for the vote) to support the Initiative, we are writing, in our personal capacities, to ask for your support of Proposition 14 – The Californians for Stem Cell Research, Treatments and Cures Initiative – which will allow California’s stem cell research institute to continue this incredibly important work. Proposition 14 will ensure the continuation of stem cell research, treatment development, and clinical trials, to better treat and potentially even cure chronic diseases and conditions including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, kidney disease, COVID-19 and more. Proposition 14 is important not just for the future of California, but for the future of medicine throughout the world.
